CTM and Supratours
CTM is Morocco's national coach company with comfortable coaches, assigned seats and tickets that can be bought in advance. Supratours is linked to the railway and runs connecting buses to towns that trains do not reach, such as Essaouira, Chefchaouen, Dakhla and Laayoune. Many smaller companies also run local routes.
Buying tickets
- Buy at the station counter or online for popular routes.
- Luggage in the hold usually costs a small extra fee; keep the receipt.
- For routes like Marrakech to Essaouira, book at least a day ahead in high season.
Night buses
Long routes such as Marrakech to Laayoune or Tangier to Marrakech have overnight services. They save a night of accommodation but are tiring; the air conditioning can be cold, so bring a jacket.
Grand taxis
Where there is no bus, a shared grand taxi will do. They leave when full, usually six passengers, and charge per seat. See getting around Morocco.
Tips
- Keep your bag with you if you are alone; do not leave your phone on the seat.
- Ask for the window seat on mountain roads if you get carsick, and take your bag with you.
- Bus stations are often outside the centre. Plan a taxi onward.
